This week I walked into a butcher shop looking to buy some fish to cook. It was after along hot day of preaching. So i walk in and the first thing i say, "hey ustedes tienen pecados??" (do you guys have sins?) but what I meant to say was, "ustedes tienen PESCADO?" which is fish haha so yeah kinda embarrassing.. my companion got a good laugh out of it. They looked at me like i was an idiot. oh well.
Also, we found a guy named Carlos, surprise right? and he let us come in to share our message. Little did we know, he is the "young men's president" of his church and he knew the bible very good. Although he had a bunch of weird interpretations, it was very noticeable that he has done alot of studying in his life. This week we've really been working on being humble so although he came back at us with different ideas, we humbly testified of the book of Mormon. We shared Juan 10:16, which says "And other sheep i have, which are not of this fold." and he came back telling us that Jesus was talking about the gentiles. And i had no evidence to show him that he was in fact talking about the people here in a America. So the next morning we did some investigating. Lucky I got the day of defense book to help us out. we did find that Jesus Christ never went to the gentiles because he said he would only visit the house of Israel. anyways it felt really good to find a answer so were gonna go back tomorrow to show him. we gave him a book of Mormon and he said he was going to read it. we asked him that if he came to know it is true, that if he would be baptized and he said yes!
We also have another investigator named Jorge. He has been really humbled because he had a good job but lost it. and hes got a wife and two kids to support and so he has been super prepared to hear us. We tell him that there is a program in the church that helps people find a job. Brother Rincon is in charge of that program. So yesterday at church, we presented him to Brother Rincon and told him that Jorge is looking for work. Rincon told him that him that he needed to go to this place and at this time and talk to this lady and that she would hire him on the spot! haha you should of seen the look on this guys face! He was just like, "are you serious!?"
Something that I love about Mexico:
- Los panaderos
At about 5 o'clock everyday, people start selling sweet bread in the streets. They get on there bikes and fill up there baskets with sweet bread and then turn this song on so everyone can hear and just drive through the streets selling the bread! 3 pieces for 10 pesos! its the greatest!
Yesterday we found a family of 6! The daughters are dentists and they offered to clean our teeth! So we went this morning to the dentist and they gave us a cleaning! They were telling us that after we left their house yesterday, their dad said, "I would really like to get baptized" They all accepted to be baptized so I'm just praying that I don't get transferred out of here because I would really like to be here to see that! next Sunday were gonna have a noche de hogar and they are going to teach us how to make hand made flour tortillas!! that's something that I have to do! I cant live her for two years and then come home not knowing how to make tortillas! oh and today they complemented me on how great my teeth are! and no cavities!
