Dear Family,
What a week it has been! But first off, I have been transferred...;( this has been THEE BEST area that I have been in and I do not want to leave. I love Valle Hermoso, and I love the members here! They have received the missionaries so warmly! It has been hard saying goodbye. I'm not really good at goodbyes. I wish that I was better at showing a Little bit of emotion because they have been like, "well thanks for everything, probably not going to see you again, bye" ha-ha so I think I'm gonna focus in on being a little bit more sincere on my goodbyes. I'm headed back to Matomoros tomorrow morning!
Last week, after having baptized sister Deyanira, I was reading through my journal and I came to the day where we found her contacting. That day we woke up and it had rained all night and the whole city was flooded. It had also rained through the morning. Before we left the house, my companion says, "we aren't gonna have any success today" and so I told him "certainly not with that attitude were not!" and after he kind of mocked me back ha-ha. He didn't really like working but he was right for the most part. We went out and all our plans that we had for the day fell through and so we contacted that morning for three hours in a Colonia and not a single person let us in or even wanted to take the time to talk to us. So we started heading for the food which was a Colonia over and we would have got there 15 min early if we wouldn't have stopped to contact this one last house which ended up being the house that sister Deyanira lived in. And now she has been baptized. We went and visited her last week and she told us that her son had been treating her very badly and he is all she has so she was even thinking about taking her life before we showed up at her house. A positive out look on life can change everything!!
I completed one year this week which feels really weird. It seems as if I've only been out a couple of months but I told one of my investigators that I was about to complete a year of my mission, so she went out and bought me a cheese cake pie! ha-ha. It was soo good! Her and her daughter were baptized this Saturday! That was a crazy day because the day before it rained so hard that the streets were flooded and the water reached about up to my waist! You wouldn't thought that hurricane Patricia would have affected us all the way up here in Valle Hermoso. I couldn't believe how much it rained and how much water there was everywhere. Anyway, when we went to the church on Saturday to prepare for the baptism the water somehow got through the roof of the church and went down into the font and so the font was full of dirty rain water. That put us in a panic because the service was in like 3 hours and we had to empty it, clean it, and fill it all in three hours. We ended up starting the baptismal service about two hours late... ha-ha but it went great!
Yesterday before sacrament meeting started, a lady comes up to me and says, "are you Elder Berry?" I looked at her thinking, "oh my gosh who are you and do i know you?" and so I said "yes I am" and it turns out that she is a recent convert from Matamors. I went on a Exchange with Elder Johnson like 4 months ago and we went and visited her! She had totally remembered everything, "yeah you came and visited me with Elder Johnson on my fourth lesson with the missionaries she said!" I was amazed! She has already received a calling in the church and has an unbelievable testimony! I felt really good to be able to have helped her come to be baptized! I also got to confirm one of our converts yesterday in church! It was awesome! Yesterday was also testimony meeting and after all the testimony's the 1st counselor got up and was closing the meeting and the bishop was making eye contact at me pretty much with the look, "what are you doing? get up here and bare your testimony!" and so I looked back at him and gave him the look, "the meeting is already over! I cant!" So the bishop stands up and stops the first counselor from closing the meeting so I could go up and say goodbye and give my testimony. It was a great day!
Thanks for the package mom! I'm sure enjoying it!:)
Love you all have a fantastic week!
Elder Berry
